Abstract

A three-page essay by Peterson about life on the farm of his great-grandparents, Frederick and Wilmina Bartelt, homesteaded in Shawano County, Wisconsin after they immigrated from Germany in 1868. These reminiscences based on childhood summer visits from 1914 through his school years describe a family farm, churning butter, hauling milk to the cheese factory, trips to town to sell and buy goods, and food storage and preparation.
